Laser Tag
Because there are many different manufacturers of laser tag equipment and because there are many available game formats with some laser tag gear, there are literally hundreds of ways to play laser tag.
All laser tag facilities use light to score tags on an opponents' sensors (usually on a vest) and possibly on base or other targets around the playing area. To participate, players must wear a special vest that allows other players to tag them.
At some locations, you play with a team, while others may operate a solo game.
Most often, the game will be timed. A computer will be used to keep track of your score so you'll know how well you played.
Players will be briefed on how to play before the game begins, so you don't have to know how to play before going.
Laser tag is an exciting activity for thrill-seekers ages 7 to 77. Players under 6-years-old can feel uncomfortable playing laser tag because of the dark playing area, weight of the equipment or complexity of the game. In addition, young players' heights may be a safety hazard for older, taller players.
Each location sets their own age policy. Please check with the center you've selected before going.
How much does it cost? How long do you play?
Each facility sets its own policies concerning pricing and length of games. In most cases, a game or session of laser tag will last less than half an hour. Please contact the facility of your choice for more information.
Laser Tag Parties and Groups
How do laser tag parties/groups work?
Just like laser tag, laser tag parties come in all shapes or sizes. Most facilities offer birthday party and group packages. Because laser tag will typically allow all party guests to participate in a fun activity at the same time, laser tag is a hit with birthday parties.
Groups of all types have enjoyed playing laser tag including sports teams, church youth groups, school groups, corporate groups and many more.
Different facilities can offer different types of parties. Many locations have food on site. They often have other attractions in addition to laser tag, like an arcade, bowling or skating. Parties may include these other attractions or they may be available on-site.

How many guests are needed to play laser tag?
Laser tag facilities come in different sizes and can accommodate different numbers of guests. For party and group bookings, most locations will have a minimum number of between 6 and 8. Please contact the location of your choice.
Remember! Even if you don't have the minimum, you can probably still play together at a local laser tag facility.
How much do parties/groups cost?
Because each facility operates parties slightly differently, there is no way to answer that question for every location. Laser tag parties are comparably priced with other types of entertainment activities and parties. Please contact the facility of your choice directly for more information and specifics.

Arena Laser Tag
Arena laser tag is the most common way to play laser tag in the U.S. and Canada. Players play indoors in room or rooms with obstacles. This allows players to hide from their opponents and helps take them away to another world.
Arenas come in all shapes and sizes.
Most of the listings on wheretoplaylasertag.com are indoor arena laser tag facilities.
Outdoor Laser Tag
Outdoor laser tag is a variation of arena laser tag played outdoors. Outdoor laser tag tends to be played over larger areas than an arena.
Rather than timed games, many outdoor games allow you to be tagged a maximum number of times before you are "out."
Outdoor laser tag is similar to paintball.
If you play outdoor laser tag, be sure to consider vital safety factors. Make certain that the playing area is safe, well-marked and known to all players. Make certain that play is on properly marked, private property.
Are outdoor facilities included in "Where to Play Laser Tag"?
Because of their nature, many outdoor locations are somewhat transient and may operate without an address and phone number. Or, the field's address may be very different from the business address.
Because the International LASERTRON Alliance primarily supports indoor arena laser tag, we do not include outdoor sites in the directory at this time, unless the outdoor location also has a verifiable, fixed indoor facility, too.
Portable Laser Tag
Portable laser tag operators have mobile gear and bring laser tag equipment to the player's house or special event. Some portable operators have a large, inflatable arena. Others may have built light-weight mobile obstacles.
For groups that desire to play laser tag at their event on their own property, portable laser tag can be an alternative to traveling to a laser tag arena or outdoor facility.
If you hire a portable operator, make certain that any playing area is clearly designated and patrolled by staff or chaperones for safety. Make certain the operator has liability insurance to protect you in the case of an accident and is properly licensed and inspected by the state (if required).
Are portable operations included in "Where to Play Laser Tag"?
Because of their nature, many portable operators are somewhat transient and operate without a fixed address and phone number. This makes it difficult to include in a database tied to a zip code.
In fairness to fixed sites, we will not list portable operators in multiple zip codes, only their 'home' zip code. There are some portable operators who will travel great distances with their gear.

Where can I find equipment I can own myself?
Most commercial laser tag gear, both indoor and outdoor, is considerably more advanced and expensive than home gear available in toy and department stores.
High quality laser tag systems typically cost $50,000-120,000 depending on the number of vests, add-ons, etc. Because commercial equipment often comes as a complete system, with a game computer, targets, and vests, it's usually impossible and impractical for a manufacturer to make a single vest available to afficianados.
